Sathya Sai School - Fiji Islands
The Sai Organisation has been
operating a kindergarten and a primary school at the Drasa,
Lautoka, since 2000. This a
Ministry of Education approved school with the aim of setting up a model where
human values education forms an integral part of the total school curriculum.
The School is able to provide human values education with the normal national
curriculum, so that the children are provided a comprehensive teaching of the
required Ministry of Education subjects with the human values program.
Presently (2007) there are 164 children.
There are 9 teachers, of which 3 are provided by the Ministry of
Education. The Head Teacher, Mr Ram Narayan, has a Diploma in Human Values Education from the
Sai University in Thailand. The kindergarten teacher also has Diploma in Human
Values Education from the same University.
The Institute of Sathya Sai Education (Fiji)
The institute of Sathya Sai Education in Education Values was
established in July 2006 as a result of funding provided by the European Union.
The objective of the institute is to develop materials for
teaching human values in all schools in Fiji, and training teachers to
implement the program.
The values program is known as "Sathya Sai Education In Human Values”. It is nondenominational, secular and
based on the universal values of Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Peace and
Non-violence.
The program is used in a number of countries such as New
Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, India, Australia, Latin America etc.
The lessons in human values are expected to be taught for 15
minutes daily. However, schools would find the impact of the program more
effective if they allocated three 30-minute periods per week to complete a
lesson.
The Institute will commence work-shops to familiarize teachers
to implement this program.
